OKC POP CON

Hey just finished guesting at OKC POP CON 21’ and what a weekend! This con had every opportunity of uniting fandom and delivering stars like Ray Park, which it did not disappoint! The best part is the owners will be following up with two other shows this season including OK Horror Con and OKC POP Christmas.

This con was the first convention back for many in Oklahoma since the Sars-Cov-19 Pandemic caused a full stop, even ending some long running shows over 2020. It was also the first step back to normalcy and many still embraced the anxiety of the fading, but still present pandemic. However, the show went on to delight and renew spirits as many turned up to not only see Ray Park(Darth Maul) but also strut their stuff for the first time in cosplay in over a year.

I didn’t know someone who looked liked me could pull off that cosplay…
— Con Attendee

My role was as a returning Cosplay Guest to the show and there were many moments of tutelage and joyful conversation, but as a non traditional cosplay guest, one moment really struck me in the feels. Sugar Venom Cosplay had been one of my reluctant handlers during the show with the ever amazing Eclectic Sapphire(don’t judge on having 2, I am quite the mess.) One of the many fans their that day came jolting up to Sugar Venom and without missing a beat exclaimed, “I didn’t know someone who liked me could pull of that cosplay…” Fighting back oncoming tears for both us, we spared each other eye contact knowing if any was made we’d be a flood of tears. This one moment was worth it all to me! 5 years of building and crafting, hundreds if not thousands spent to be able to guest, and watching one of my best friends in the hobby receive one of the greatest compliments a guest could ever have received made this weekend a strong start to the 2021 con season. Be the inspiration you so struggled to find!
